हाम्रो कथा — “our story”

Hamro Katha began with a nephew. Born in Australia, he visited Nepal after his first year and something clicked — he learned to bow in the prayer room, picked up Nepali words, and started to recognise the world his parents came from. Watching him absorb that culture was moving. Watching it fade once he was back home was harder.

Millions of children in immigrant and expat families grow up a world away from their homeland's festivals, food, language, and traditions. There are thousands of Nepali families abroad in exactly this situation — wanting to pass something on, but without the everyday context that makes it stick.

We believe the oldest teaching tool there is — a story at bedtime — is also the best. So we make warm, illustrated, bilingual stories that let a two-year-old meet a yak in the Himalayas, receive tika on Dashain morning, or eat dal bhat with hajurama — all in English, with Nepali woven in naturally.

We're starting with the Nepali diaspora in Australia, and growing from there — towards every Nepali child abroad who missed the chance to grow up the way their parents did. Our aim is simple: every child should feel proud of where they come from, no matter where they're growing up.
